Silver Laced Wyandotte

These are some of the most striking chickens with their black and white laced feathers, tidy rose comb and yellow legs. They are friendly and active, and a great choice for the backyard flock.

Wyandottes stand out in the flock, not only because of their beautiful colouring but because of their rose combs, which are less likely to suffer damage in freezing temperatures, and yellow legs. They were created in the United States in the 1870's and the first color, Silver Laced, was accepted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1883.

Wyandottes were developed to be a dual purpose breed, hens are good egg layers, laying 200 240 eggs per year and roosters finish at a good size for the table. These are big birds, roosters weighing around 8 lbs and hens 6 lbs, our line is a little smaller.

Silver Laced Wyandottes have also been called the American Sebright and Sebright Cochin. Sebright now only refers to a small bantam breed with a rose comb and laced feathers.

This is our first year with them and we will be working on improvements. The lacing is not as good as it should be on the hens and they could be bigger but they are still very pretty and a reasonable representation of the breed.
